Plot Summary: Baldacci begins this crime drama with a surprise and twist, and a murder.  While the reader, and main character, Luther Whitney know the truth, the rest of the US doesn’t, and one of the greatest coverups ever orchestrated occurs.  Another main character, Jack Graham, a promising and talented Washington D.C. attorney, comes to the aid of his old friend, Whitney by defending him in court for the murder he is wrongfully accused, yet, what he doesn’t know are the surprising and possible world-changing details of the crime.  The novel works backward from the scene of the crime, revealing a story intertwined with a cast of characters that end up merging in a thought-provoking and dramatic ending.  As the investigation unfolds, the story embarks on a journey of uncovering to Jack, just how gritty the crime really is, but even more surprising to Jack is who the perpetrator ends up being, and changes his life as a high profile attorney forever.
